Kids Water Monitoring Lab

You’re never far from water in the Valley region. People use water at their homes, at their jobs and when they look for fun places to visit.

Water is so plentiful in the area that people may sometimes take it for granted. But not the people at TVA. They think about water … a lot.

“Part of TVA’s mission is to protect the Valley’s natural resources for future generations,” said Jassica Raper, environmental stewardship and sustainability facilitator. “This program creates young citizen scientists who have discovered their behavior can help keep the Valley’s waterways clean and healthy. They’ve also learned how their actions can affect water quality at home and around the world.”

TVA’s Water Monitoring Lab helps 4th-6th grade students learn about water. This lab program is available to students across the region to experience a day as an environmental scientist. Students can carry out several experiments to determine water quality and analyze their results to see if their water sample will support aquatic life.

Schools in Knox and Hamilton counties can request an in-person facilitator thanks to a volunteer partnership with Bicentennial Volunteers Inc.
