Caring for Pollinators
Bees and butterflies are important!
They fly from flower to flower and plant to plant collecting pollen. As they do, they help plants produce fruits and vegetables that we eat. Without pollinators, we wouldn’t have many of the foods we love, like apples, strawberries and pumpkins!
Pollinators help grow one out of every three bites of food we eat!
Pollinator Examples

Long-horned Bee

Gulf fritillary butterfly

Gray hairstreak butterfly

Hawkmoth
Pollinators Are in Trouble
Some types of bees and butterflies are disappearing. One reason is because pollinators are losing their homes and their food.
How to Help
TVA is working to help pollinators on TVA public land and underneath transmission lines. Native plants and grasses are growing. And that’s giving the pollinators food to eat and places to live.
You can help, too!
- Plant native flowers that bees, butterflies and moths love.
- Reduce the use of chemicals in your garden and lawn.
- Landscape with native plants.
- Buy foods that are habitat friendly, like Bee Better Certified products.
