Taking TVA’s Mission Across the Globe

For more than 20 years, Caleb Huff has built a career at TVA rooted in service, and his passion for helping those in need inspires adventures to lands around the world.

During his work hours, Huff oversees warehousing and inventory management processes for TVA's coal and gas facilities across Kentucky as a site materials manager in Supply Chain.

On any given day, Huff and his nine-member team might handle essentials like gloves and earplugs or complex components such as boiler tubes and pulverizer parts. When a unit unexpectedly goes down, his team jumps into support mode – working around the clock supplying the materials crews need to restore power quickly and safely.

“Every day is different,” Huff said. “But that’s part of what I enjoy.”

In recent years, Huff brought his spirit for adventure and commitment to service together by traveling to remote communities around the globe, providing vital support and resources.

Service Beyond the Valley Region

What began as a church‑led medical mission trip to Cuba has grown into four international service trips, including a visit to Kenya this summer.

His wife, a family nurse practitioner, was invited to join the first trip to Cuba in 2024. Shortly thereafter, Huff was invited to join the same team. At first, he wasn’t sure how he would contribute without medical training but ultimately decided to take the leap.

“I was nervous,” Huff said. “But it all came together, we hit the ground running and off we went.”

Over multiple trips, Huff has performed roles ranging from pharmacy support to medical triage – taking blood pressure, checking oxygen levels and screening blood glucose. He’s also helped fit people for readers’ glasses — something many don’t have access to.

During their most recent trip to Kenya, Huff and his wife led the medical portion of an 11‑person team. They worked both in the coastal town of Diani and in the rural community of Lunga Lunga near the Tanzania border.

Returning home after experiences like these can be grounding, Huff said. He carries that perspective into his work at TVA.

“It’s the same type of service we do here at TVA locally,” he said. “You can use that same mentality on a wider scale to help people across the globe.”

‘Carrying out TVA’s Mission Together’

Huff is a second-generation TVA employee whose parents met at TVA.

“TVA produces more than electricity,” he said jokingly. “They produce families too.”

For him, the best part about working at TVA is the people.

Many of the team members he supports are also his neighbors – people he sees at church, at school events and in the community. That sense of connection is woven into his day‑to‑day work.

“Everybody that I interact with are good people that have great intentions and want to do the right thing,” Huff said. “We’re all one larger team trying to carry out TVA’s mission together.”

His message to those looking for ways to serve:

“Don’t ever discount yourself,” Huff said. “You never know what skills you have until you put them to use... We can all help each other out.”
