Hampton Station 500-kV Substation

Montgomery County, Tennessee

On October 9, 2025, TVA issued a final environmental assessment (EA) and a finding of no significant impact for its Hampton Station 500-kV Substation project. The proposed Hampton Station 500-kV Substation project consists of the construction and operation of a new 500-kV substation and associated transmission lines. On January 26, 2026, TVA issued a revised finding of no significant impact to address previously undocumented impacts to three additional wetland features delineated during a November 2025 site visit and to outline remediation measures.

Any future proposed 161-kV transmission line expansion at TVA’s existing Montgomery 500-kV Substation is limited because of space availability. The proposed 500-kV substation, located adjacent to the existing Montgomery and new LG Chem substations, are needed to accommodate load growth in the area. The proposed project will serve the load demands needed by two customers, Google and LG Chem, as well as provide additional capacity and reliability benefits for the Clarksville and Hopkinsville regions. Additionally, the proposed project will support TVA’s ability to continue to operate its transmission system reliably and within national industry standards.

As part of the proposed project, an approximate 107-acre parcel will be purchased for the new substation. The substation and permanent access road would occupy approximately 35 acres of the substation parcel. This property is located on the south side of Charles Bell Road near the intersection of Charles Bell Road and Steel Stock Road outside the municipality of Clarksville in Montgomery County, Tennessee. In addition, TVA will construct 0.5- and 0.8-mile-long double circuit transmission lines within new 200-foot-wide transmission line rights-of-way that would extend north of the substation parcel (~17.5 acres). The draft EA was available for public and agency comment from August 15, 2025, through August 29, 2025.

The scheduled in-service date for the proposed project is May 2030 or as soon as possible after that date.
