Additional Information
The IRP is a comprehensive long-term study that provides strategic direction on how to best meet future customer demand for electricity over the next 20+ years.
The Preliminary Final IRP and EIS reflect changes in information and circumstances since the IRP was paused in early 2025, and TVA has refreshed IRP assumptions to align with the key changes in the electric utility industry. For example, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and a number of executive orders and regulatory actions impact the costs, availability, and requirements related to certain resource types. In addition, the actual and forecasted electricity demand in the Tennessee Valley region continues to increase, primarily due to population growth and data center growth.
The Preliminary Final IRP includes power supply mix ranges, recommendations for short-term strategic portfolio direction and information on factors that will influence long-term portfolio direction. The final documents will incorporate changes made based on the evaluation of stakeholder and public comments.
The Final IRP recommendations and EIS will be shared at the Board Meeting in August 2026 for the Board’s consideration. If the TVA Board accepts the IRP recommendations, the IRP will serve as TVA’s compass for power generation decisions as well as for long-term operational and financial planning.
