TVA Asks for Comments on Proposed Transmission Project

July 12, 2012

SELMER,Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking the public for input about a transmission line project that would improve electric reliability in McNair and Hardin counties in southwestern Tennessee by providing an additional source of power to local substations.

TVA is proposing to build a new switching station and about 15 miles of 161-kilovolt transmission line. The line would extend northeast from TVA’s existing Selmer 161-kilovolt Substation to the proposed West Adamsville Switching Station, to be located east of the Pickwick Hydro Plant-South Jackson 161-kilovolt transmission line near U.S. Highway 64.

TVA is considering several alternate routes from a network of 21 possible line segments. Some of the segments would share right of way with existing lines. The rest of the line would be built on steel pole structures centered on a 100-foot right-of-way.

Public input is encouraged, beginning with an open house on July 19, from 3-7 p.m. CDT, at the Selmer Community Center Gymnasium, 230 North Fifth St., Selmer, Tenn.

Detailed maps showing the different locations for the proposed power line and switching station will be available. TVA staff will attend to answer questions, discuss concerns and receive comments. More information is available at Transmission System Projects.

To submit comments, contact TVA’s Todd Moore toll free at (800) 362-4355, by e-mail at newtransline@tva.com or by mail to: Todd Moore, Tennessee Valley Authority, 1101 Market St., MR 4G, Chattanooga, Tenn., 37402-2801. The deadline for comments is Aug. 20.
