TVA Employees Contribute $2.6 Million To Help Valley Communities
March 18, 2014
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Valley Authority employees contributed nearly $2.6 million in 2013 to make a difference in the lives of others through payroll giving to the Combined Federal Campaign.
“TVA was created to serve the people of this region,” TVA President and CEO Bill Johnson said. “Our employees embody that spirit professionally and personally, not just during CFC, but every day.”
The Combined Federal Campaign, established in 1961 with support from President John F. Kennedy, is the sole fundraising program for federal employees. The campaign has become the nation’s leading workplace giving program, raising more money for charity than any other annual employee-giving program.
The CFC is comprised of more than 200 local campaigns. TVA employees contributed to several across the Valley in 2013:
|Smoky Mountain Region (Knoxville)||$419,874|
|Tennessee Regional (Nashville)||$261,276|
|Muscle Shoals (Ala.) CFC||$100,064|
|Tennessee Valley CFC (Huntsville, Ala.)||$182,793|
|CFC of the Mid South (Memphis)||$29,264|
|Greater Mississippi CFC||$2,466|
|Bowling Green, Ky.||$1,820|
|Total TVA Employee Giving||$2,588,532|
“Our employees work every day to make the Valley a better place to live through TVA’s mission of energy, environment and economic development,” said Dan Traynor, TVA chief information officer and Chattanooga-area campaign chairman.
“Each year during the Combined Federal Campaign our employees take that desire to help our communities and fellow citizens a step further by contributing to causes that benefit so many,” he said.
Employees can choose among thousands of local, national and international organizations to support.
TVA Vice President and Treasurer Tammy Wilson, chairman of the Smoky Mountain Region CFC in Knoxville, said employees give where their passion leads them.
“We have employees who give to local organizations in their hometowns and those that give to global efforts,” she said. “At home, across the nation and around the globe, the generosity of TVA employees is making a difference in the lives of others.”
Total TVA charitable giving, including employee donations and corporate support for local United Way campaigns, totaled nearly $2.9 million in 2013.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power distributors serving 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. TVA receives no taxpayer funding, deriving virtually all of its revenues from sales of electricity. In addition to operating and investing its revenues in its electric system, TVA provides flood control, navigation and land management for the Tennessee River system and assists local power companies and state and local governments with economic development and job creation.
