TVA Hosts 31st Annual Wildflower Walks at Norris Dam
March 13, 2014
NORRIS, Tenn. – Nature will be on display during the Tennessee Valley Authority’s annual spring wildflower walks at Norris Dam on Saturday, March 29, and Saturday April 5.
Guided walks are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. EST at the River Bluff Small Wild Area along the Clinch River west of Norris Dam. The walks are free and require no reservation.
New this year, walkers can take photos and ask questions about the wildflowers they see along the trail by posting them on Facebook and Twitter. A TVA botanist will be online to provide answers and identify the flowers. TVA’s Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/TVA and on Twitter @TVA_Newsroom – posts should use the hashtag: #TVAflowers.
The annual wildflower walks are hosted by TVA in conjunction with Ijams Nature Center, Norris Dam State Park and the Friends of Norris Dam State Park.
The trail is a moderately difficult, 3.4-mile loop and is known for a spectacular array of spring wildflowers, especially Yellow Trout Lilies, Celandine Poppies, Bloodroot, Spring Beauties and Toothwort.
The hikes will be held rain or shine, and participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. For additional information, contact TVA’s Environmental Information Center at 800-882-5263.
To reach the TVA River Bluff Small Wild Area, take U.S. Highway 441 and turn onto Dabney Road, which is approximately 1 mile north of Norris Dam, and follow the signs to the parking area.
