TVA and Local Power Companies Ask For Voluntary Electricity Conservation in Northeast Tennessee

June 30, 2012

TVA and three local power companies in Northeast Tennessee are asking electric power customers in that area to reduce their use of electricity as much as possible from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. EDT daily through Tuesday, July 3.

Voluntary reduction is requested to help ensure a continued supply of power to essential services and to avoid interruptions in service.

The most important thing consumers can do is pre-cool their homes after 9 p.m. and through early morning. It is more efficient to pre-cool at night to temperatures in the mid-sixties then turn up air conditioning to 78 degrees between 3 - 9 p.m. This will keep customers comfortable and reduce electrical usage.

Also postpone using electric appliances and turn off unnecessary lights and other electrical equipment.

The affected region is the area served by Johnson City Power Board, Erwin Utilities and Greeneville Light & Power System.
