Power Purchase Agreement for West Tennessee Solar Farm

Haywood County, Tennessee

On April 4, 2011, TVA issued a finding of no significant impact (FONSI) for its actions to enter into a power purchase agreement with the State of Tennessee for the planned West Tennessee Solar Farm project in Haywood County, Tennessee, as well as to provide funds for the educational component of the project.  The project consists of the construction and operation of a 5- to 10-megawatt photovoltaic generating facility, visitor’s center, transmission lines, and interstate exit/entrance ramps.  Educational programs would be developed to inform the public about solar and possibly other alternative energy technologies.

On February 2, 2011, the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a final EA and a FONSI for its action to release funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  These funds are to be used for the construction of the solar farm project through the DOE State Energy Program.  After independent review of the DOE EA and its associated reports and findings, TVA determined that the DOE analysis and documentation adequately encompassed the potential for environmental impacts of TVA’s actions.  Consequently, TVA has adopted the associated findings and final EA prepared by the U.S. Department of Energy.
