Burlison 161-Kilovolt Transmission Line
Tipton County, Tennessee
On May 27, 2011, TVA issued an environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for its proposal to construct and operate a 161‑kilovolt (kV) transmission line in Tipton County. This new transmission line would supply electric power to the new Burlison 161-kV Substation, which is being constructed by the Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation, a local distributor of TVA power. The new line would connect the distributor’s new Burlison Substation to TVA’s existing Shelby-Covington #1 161-kV Transmission Line.
The transmission line would be constructed on 7.2 miles of new 100-foot-wide right-of-way and would occupy approximately 88 acres. TVA would also install two switch structures. One switch would be installed in the Shelby-Covington #1 Transmission Line (replacing an existing structure), and the other would be installed within the right-of-way for the new transmission line. TVA would update displays at its control centers in Chattanooga to indicate the status of the new facilities.
Additional information on the project is available including background information, maps, and a project schedule.
